Comfort
Sorry, Lord, but birthday celebrations
for you will, as always, be late this year.
I know that we should have had a
party for you sometime between April
and October, but old St Augustine and
his religious pragmatism got in the way,
back in the day.
Nevermind though, better late than never, eh?
This old church of St. Lawrence, in Alton,
has rung out the Christmas Bells for
one thousand years.
The original old bells were getting
a bit worn, so a new set were cast
back in 1928 - they have proved to
be magnificent in every way.
For many bell-ringers, this full peal is
the finest set of church bells in the
whole of England, and it always gives
me a a great deal of mental, and
spiritual comfort to listen to them.
If you can spare five minutes of
your precious time, you might enjoy
hearing these beautiful bells,
beautifully rung:
Seasonal Greetings
to all and sundry;
May your Gods go with you.
