'DEFIANT' - Sunday Scribblings - 30/12/2012

'Defiant'

Does anyone recognise this famous picture?   That's right!  It is the official police artist's sketch of the infamous Unabomber.   He was caught, and is now serving several life sentences for a series of bombings that injured many people, and killed two.   He is precisely where he should be, after committing his heinous, indiscriminate crimes.   A clever, intelligent, capable man, he took it upon himself to act upon his beliefs in a manner totally unacceptable to modern society.

     His beliefs are contained in:

Has anyone actually read this manifesto; carefully, with an open mind to honest argument?   I have!  With all the socially required amount of concern, doubt, and disbelief firmly in place, yet I still have to  say that I cannot help but agree with about 90% of it.   It should be read, and studied, by everyone who is worried about the way society is developing in these troubled times; not from the point of view of admiring its author or agreeing with his wanton actions, but with regret that so much sense; commonsense and right thinking could be so wasted by cruel, foolish, murderous behaviour.

I defy anyone to read this manifesto and disagree with it 100%.   I defy anyone who is worried about the future, to read this manifesto and fail to agree with most of it.

When I first looked into the Unabomber Manifesto, I assumed I would be reading the wild ramblings of a madman.   I was wrong; now you try it!

  1. I haven't read it but I can see that cushioned in logic and reason it may appear to be acceptable...like some little treat when you take medicine, masking the horror of what you have just done or to justify a vile act. Almost like the act of rape justified because she asked for it because she looked attractive. Humankind is always vulnerable to hidden persuaders everywhere you look.

  2. reading your thoughts on this and the news/events around the world this past few days itself makes me feel that there must be something everyone will agree to in this book..

  3. I guess many a tortured mind can come across well in word..but not in deed..curiouser still is our desire to read such thoughts..i hope that will ever be so and we can decide for ourselves what is 'right or wrong'..happy new year to you..let's hope it's full of some more benevolent kind of scribbles..

  4. I have not read this, but it probably does contain some rational thoughts. That in no way means the author is sane. He was anti-social and his actions can't be condoned. I hope you have a wonderful New Year. I'm going to try to think about what is right with the world rather than focus on everything that's wrong with it in the coming year. I know, I know. It's easier said than done.
